Mary Travers, R. I. P.

We seem to be losing so many of them so fast lately. Today yet another flower is gone, long time passing, but she seeded the still-blooming social conscience of an entire generation.

My wife tells me to get ready for years of this now. I hope I'm lucky enough to suffer through years of it.

What amazes me is that when I caught just a few minutes of the young PP&M on PBS, before running to a commitment at church, their commitment and passion completely fired me up all over again. I'm old and tired and getting worn down by a ton of stuff these days, but catching their earliest appearances --- when they were taking risks by combining their art and their social convictions -- reminded me what ministry is all about.

Shakespeare was wrong -- the good is not interr'd with our bones.
