Oliver Twist
I just learned that Roman Polanski has directed a new version of Famous UU Charles Dickens's classic Oliver Twist, to be released in a few weeks. Why didn't I know that until now? Can't wait to take Faustoette and Fausto Jr. to see it.
Q: What do Ben Kingsley, Ron Moody and Fausto have in common?
A: All have played the role of Fagin.
Ben Kingsley as Fagin, 2005
Fausto as Fagin, 1973
Ron Moody as Fagin, 1968

Actually Dickens was not a UU but a Unitarian, at least for a period of his life. There were no UUs before 1961, and there have never been UUs in England (apart from some visiting Americans).
Yes, I know. I often poke fun at the UUA's "Famous UU" list, where if your name is even slightly known in the broader society, and your car was ever seen parked (or you horse tethered) in the same block as a Unitarian or Universalist church, or if you ever had anything nice to say about either Unitarians or Universalists, your name is likely to be on the list.
One of the amusing things about the list (other than its radical inclusiveness) is precisely that so many of the names on it belong to people who died before 1961.
Give me a little credit -- it may be over 30 years since my high school drama career peaked, but I'd like to think I can still do irony on occasion!
FWIW, Salon just gave that movie one of th emost positive movie reviews I've ever seen.
