Beam Him Up!
Driving home from work tonight, I heard the sad news that actor James Doohan died today. As Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott, he provided an entire generation with an example of how to merge reason, faith, loyalty, the human condition, and applied science.
Rest in peace, Scotty.

There was a huge Trek convention last August honoring him--the entire original cast and many others came, he was that well loved. For an Irishman, he did a bonny Scottish accent!
Actually, he was a Canuck.
According to NPR, he tried 8 different accents before settling on a Scots burr for the pilot episode.
Yes, of course from Canada...I meant he was of Irish descent.
